Sassy Square Dancing

Every year at the end of the school year, our school has a dance festival.  Each grade has a dance they perform--from High School Musical to Cotton Eye Joe.  Fourth grade does square dancing, probably because it fits with Utah history.  It also includes....touching each others' hands.  (GASP!)  Ewww!  Gross!!!!

Which means, for at least a month before, I get to hear whining about how they are NOT going to dance with someone.  They're going to miss school.  They'll be sick.  They'll be on vacation.  That "it's against the law to dance until you're 16."  (I almost wanted to be like, "It's 14, kid, get it right," but thought better of it.)

The funniest thing yet, though, happened yesterday.
A boy from my class came back from our dance practice and announced,

"I like the dance!  The dancing part was fun.  But the partner part?  That was too sassy!"

After I burst out laughing, he looked at me a little confused and said, "Wait.....what does sassy mean again?"

Well, I could have told him a lot of things, but I don't think any of them have much to do with square dancing.  At least not in fourth grade.
